Choosing Life: How Caritas Kasese is Giving Hope to Women in Crisis

In the hills of Kasese, and the DRC boarder in particular  many women and young girls face the hardest choice of their lives. Poverty, rejection, and fear often push them toward abortion. For some, it’s a teenage pregnancy; for others, it’s the pain of being abandoned or abused. But now, a new light is shining through the darkness.

Caritas Kasese, the social arm of the Catholic Diocese of Kasese, has launched a life-changing initiative “Preventing Abortion through Financial, Spiritual, and Psychosocial Support.” The project reaches out to women and girls in crisis pregnancies, reminding them that they are not alone.

Through this initiative, women receive emergency financial help spiritual counseling, and emotional healing. Many are also given livelihood training to rebuild their futures with dignity and independence. For the first time, they are told, “You can still dream. You can still hope.”

One teenage mother shared, “When everyone rejected me, Caritas listened. They helped me start a small business and guided me in prayer. I chose to keep my baby and my hope.”

Behind every statistic is a life, a child, and a mother who deserves love, not judgment. Caritas Kasese believes that protecting life begins with compassion and that faith, when joined with action, can save generations.

Together, we can turn despair into dignity and fear into faith.
